Custom Domains: Serve Your QR Codes From Your Own Branded URL
MetricQR now supports custom domains — serve your dynamic QR short links from your own domain like qr.yourbrand.com instead of metricqr.com. Pair it with custom slugs for fully branded URLs. Part of the optional MetricQR Pro plan.
Your QR codes can now live on your own domain. Instead of pointing to metricqr.com/c/abc123, a dynamic QR can serve its short link from something like qr.yourbrand.com/c/abc123 — the same fast, editable, fully tracked redirect, but wrapped in your brand from the very first character.
Custom domains are launching today as part of MetricQR Pro, our optional paid plan that sits on top of the generous free tier.
Every dynamic QR code in MetricQR encodes a short URL — the link that's actually printed into the QR image. By default that link uses our domain (metricqr.com). With custom domains, you can connect a domain you own and have your codes encode your hostname instead.
The redirect behaves identically. When someone scans qr.yourbrand.com/c/abc123, MetricQR resolves the code, records the scan, and sends them to the destination — exactly the same flow as the default domain, with all the same analytics. The only difference is the name on the link.
Setup is intentionally low-friction: you add two CNAME records at your registrar, click Verify, and MetricQR provisions an auto-renewing TLS certificate behind the scenes. Once the domain goes active, it appears as a selectable option in the QR generator. No certificates to manage, no renewals to remember.
The short URL is the part of a dynamic QR code that gets printed — onto packaging, signage, business cards, flyers, posters. Once it's printed, it's permanent. That makes the domain on the link a lasting piece of your brand's physical presence, and there are real reasons to make it yours:
- Trust and credibility. A link on your own domain looks like it belongs to you. Scanners (and the cameras and browsers that preview link destinations) see your name, not a third-party service. That reassurance can meaningfully lift click-through, especially in print where people are deciding whether a code is safe to scan.
- Brand consistency. Your domain is already on your website, your email, and your ads. Putting it on your QR codes too means every touchpoint reinforces the same identity instead of advertising someone else's.
- Professional polish. For agencies and teams delivering campaigns to clients, branded links are simply expected. A QR code that resolves through the client's own domain reads as a finished, premium piece of work.
- It's invisible to scanners — in a good way. Because the encoded host is yours, your audience never sees "MetricQR" anywhere in the link. The platform does the work; your brand gets the credit.
- Product packaging where a branded link reassures buyers the code is legitimate.
- Retail and signage — posters, window displays, in-store signs that carry your name end to end.
- Business cards and print collateral where a clean, on-brand URL is part of the design.
- Agencies and freelancers delivering campaigns under a client's brand rather than a generic platform's.
- Events and conferences where a memorable, trustworthy link encourages more people to scan.
Custom domains pair naturally with custom slugs, the branded-short-URL feature also included in Pro. Slugs let you replace the auto-generated code (/c/abc123xyz) with something meaningful (/c/summer-sale).
Combine the two and you get a URL that's branded from end to end:
qr.yourbrand.com/c/summer-sale
Your domain on the left, your campaign name on the right — a link that's instantly recognizable, easy to read aloud or type if someone can't scan, and works just as hard in print as the QR image itself. Nothing about it points back to us.
Custom domains are a MetricQR Pro feature. Pro is our optional paid plan — it's purely additive and sits on top of the free plan, which stays exactly as generous as it's always been: unlimited QR codes, unlimited scans, all QR types, dynamic editing, custom colors and logos, real-time analytics, and print-ready downloads, all with no watermarks and no credit card.
Pro adds the power features for serious campaigns and teams — branded short URLs (slugs), custom domains, team workspaces, analytics export, password protection, expiry dates, UTM and dynamic scan parameters, and smart labels — for one flat price, with no tiers and no per-seat pricing.
Each Pro account can connect one active custom domain, with an additional domain available per team organization. Domains are chosen at the moment you create a code (because the host is baked into the printed image), and the default metricqr.com keeps working forever — existing codes are never affected.
If you want your QR codes to carry your own name from the first scan to the last, head to your dashboard, upgrade to Pro, and add your domain in Settings. A couple of CNAME records later, your codes will be serving from a URL that's entirely yours.
And if the free plan already does everything you need — keep enjoying it. That's exactly what it's there for.
